Growlithe, I choose you! Pokémon Go is having a Fire and Ice event right now so I finally am catching growlithes! Then I started wondering what sort of pokémon the hobbit characters would have… and had to draw Thorin with a growlithe!
Why a fire-type? Because as much as dwarves work the earth, they have a natural affinity for fire in Tolkein’s world and Thorin, in my mind, is very much affiliated with fire. The fire of passion, temper, battle… and of course, the flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long. *weeps*
As for other pokémon pairings (which I hope i get time to draw! omg. I want to draw moar of these!):
- Thranduil - Mirkwood is stuffed full of fairy type pokémon (that help him enchant the woods) but Thranduil especially dotes on his clefairies and their various evolutions. He’s also terribly fond of Pidgeys, of all things, and keeps a tonne of those garbage-trash pokémon around.
- Galadriel - She’s got her ‘battle’ pokémon, impressively rare, powerful in battle… but the pokémon you’ll find by her side and waddling after her on any given day will be a psyduck. She is well aware of how ridiculous looking it is at her side but she adores the contrast and the looks on people’s faces when they see her sharing tea with her weirdo psyduck.
- Elrond - Elrond is such a bleeding heart… he takes in injured pokémon of all types and Rivendell is home to many water type pokémon. I picture Elrond sitting in a study somewhere with his books surrounded by all sorts of pokémon he has healed and that love him to death. I like the idea of him hiding away some rare types for their own protection and that Rivendell is home not only to a Lapras but has a Dratini nest that Elrond is determined to protect from corrupting influences. “Not all dragon-types are inherently evil!” Thranduil accuses Elrond of ‘hoarding’ pokémon but really, is he one to talk? You can barely find fairy-types outside of Mirkwood by the third age!
- Bard - If you’re into Barduil I could see him with a fierce Pidgeot that Thranduil evolved and gifted him with.
- Bilbo - He doesn’t need a pokémon thankyewverramuch. He’s perfectly happy on his own. Yes, yes they seem to want to hang about him all of the time but he has no time for training and all of that nonsense. Why, just the other week he and Hamfast had to chase another bulbasaur out of his garden! if you aren’t firm they’ll make nests and next thing you know all of your tomatoes are eaten up! Then he ends up with something terribly rare that melts his resolve and he insists on naming it something completely inappropriate like Drumbottom. I donno.
What pokémon do you think various characters should pair up with? I’m so curious! If you draw/write/come up with more hobbit pokemon au stuff drop me an ask or ‘at’ me on your post! I am so in love with this and I’d love to see what other people think!
